It almost hurts
The cold
Cutting
Clean
Darkness has blanketed the world around me
But pure white strikes through it
The light of the moon ricochets
And sparkles abound
It's quiet
Peaceful
But the squeaking crunch beneath my heavily clad feet
I breathe out
A small puff of cloud dispels the darkness in front of me
I look up
An opal sky filled with diamonds
I breathe in
The smell of wood ablaze fills the air around me
The scent of nostalgia
I breathe out
My face feels the frigid air
My body does not
I trudge on

I am SOOOOOO ready for this. I can feel it and smell it through your beautiful description. Thank-you!
Lovely, cold, peaceful- you nailed winter. Perfectly.
(And coming from this Minnesotan- that's so a compliment! :))
Oh, I do love winter!
Lovely to think of it coming again!
Oooh, I hate winter. But this almost made me look forward to walking outside in the snow. Almost.
The opal sky and the idea of your face being cold but not your body were my favorite parts. They took me there with you.
Thank you MC and CDG! I am never really ready for winter but I do love some aspects of it. A winter night walk is always refreshing and reflective.
@Galit - well if I can impress you, I'm happy. Your writing is spectacular.
@Angela - I love how specific your comment is. I'm glad I 'almost' made you look forward to winter. ;)
